Moderatpers.com – Pondok Pesantren Madrasatul Qur’an (MQ) merupakan salah satu pesantren yang terletak di daerah Tebuireng, Jombang. Pesantren ini berdiri pada tanggal 27 Syawal 1319 H atau bertepatan pada 15 Desember 1971. Didirakannya pesantren ini merupakan perwujudan cita-cita luhur dari KH. Hasyim Asy’ari dan KH. Wahid Hasyim.

Pengasuh pertama PPMQ bernama KH. Yusuf Masyhar atau yang kerap disapa Kiai Yusuf. Ia lahir di Tuban, sebuah kabupaten yang berada di bagian pesisir Jawa Timur pada 1925.  Menurut cerita yang beredar, kiai Yusuf sudah hafal Al-Qur’an saat usianya masih  14 tahun.

Setelah menyelesaikan tahfidznya, kiai Yusuf melanjutkan pendidikannya ke pesantren Tebuireng pada tahun 1940. Selain di Tebuireng, kiai Yusuf juga belajar di pesantren Rejoso, Peterongan di bawah bimbingan Kiai Dahlan.

Saat mondok di Tebuireng, kiai Yusuf berguru langsung kepada Hadratussyaikh KH. Hasyim Asy’ari. Karena bacaan Al-Qur’annya yang baik, kiai Yusuf diberi amanah oleh Kiai Hasyim untuk mendirikan unit tahfidz di pesantren Tebuireng. Unit tahfidz ini bertempat di rumah KH. Wahid Hasyim & Bu Nyai Sholihah yang diwakafkan untuk santri yang menghafal Al-Qur’an.

Pada tahun 1928, kiai Hasyim mendatangkan seorang guru tahfidz bernama Syaikh Abdul Hamid Wardad yang merupakan kawannya saat di Mekah. Sepeninggal Syaikh Hamid pada tahun 1932, pembelajaran ilmu Al-Qur’an di Tebuireng tetap berjalan hingga 1936.

Pembelajaran ini merupakan inisiatif dari KH. Wahid Hasyim dan Kiai Ilyas untuk mendirikan Madrasah Nidzomiyyah. Madrasah ini diatur dengan kurikulum campuran, perpaduan antara salaf, bahasa asing non-Arab, dan ilmu Al-Qur’an.

Karena kekaguman hadratussyaikh kepada kiai Yusuf muda yang memiliki wawasan luas dalam ilmu Al-Qur’an, ia lantas menikahkan kiai yusuf dengan cucunya yang bernama Ruqoyyah Baidlowi saat usianya berusia 21 tahun.

Selepas wafatnya kiai Hasyim pada 25 Juli 1947, kiai Yusuf tetap melanjutkan perjuangannya dalam mengajar Al-Qur’an di pesantren Tebuireng. Oleh karena itu, kiai Yusuf dan istrinya memutuskan untuk bermukim di Jombang, tepatnya berada di dekat masjid agung.

Di samping kesibukannya dalam mengajarkan Al-Qur’an, kiai Yusuf juga dikenal sebagai seoramg yang giat dalam bekerja.

Hamid Baidlowi berkonsultasi kepada pengasuh pesantren Tebuireng KH. Yusuf Hasyim untuk membuat pesantren unit di Tebuireng yang khusus untuk mempelajari ilmu Al-Qur’an.

Untuk merealisasikan tujuan tersebut, para kiai Tebuireng dan sekitarnya berkumpul pada 27 Syawal 1391 atau 15 Desember 197 untuk membahas rencana itu. Kiai-kiai tersebut adalah :

1.Kiai M. Yusuf Hasyim (1929-2007)
2. Kiai Idris Kamali (1887-1987)
3. Kiai Adlan Ali (1900-1990)
4. Kiai A. Shobari (1900-1981)
5. Kiai Syansuri Badawi (w. 2002)
6. Kiai Manshur Anwar (1907-1983)
7. Kiai Mahfudz Anwar (1912-1999)
8. Kiai Ya’qub Bulurejo (w. 1976)
9. Kiai Kholil Sukopuro

Dari perkumpulan ini memutuskan kiai Yusuf Masyhar sebagai pemegang kendali sekaligus pengasuh unit tahfidz ini. Nama unit ini kemudian berubah dari Madrasah Huffadz (1977) dan menjadi Madrasatul Qur an (1982) yang hingga kini masih dikenal sebagai pesantren tahfidz terbesar di Jombang.
