Salah satu narasumber yang menjadi daya tarik peserta adalah Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra, MA., CBE (Guru Besar UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta dan Staf Khusus Wakil Presiden RI untuk Bidang reformasi Birokrasi, 2019).
“Radikalisme itu menurut saya adalah pemahamanan dan fraksis yang ingin mengubah sesuatu secara radikal, cepat, dan menyeluruh. Dan biasanya, radikalisme itu terkait dengan politik, bukan semata-mata agama. Contohnya seperti ingin merubah NKRI menjadi Khilafah, Daulah Islamiah, dsb. Jadi, kalau dalam agama aslinya tidak ada itu suatu kaum yang ingin merubah agamanya secara menyeluruh itu belum pernah saya temukan,” ucap Azyumardi Azra.
Dalam pemaparan materinya, Ia juga menyampaikan poin-poin penting tentang isu radikalisme yang terus membuat masyarakat resah dewasa ini. Poin-poinnya yaitu :
1. Kerentanan Anak Muda : Komparasi. Hal itu karena di usia sedemikian rupa (SMA, Mahasiswa) lebih rentan terpengaruh paham radikal.
2. Radikalisme di perguruan Tinggi (PT). Upaya pemerintah untuk memberantas radikalisme di Indonesia sebenarnya telah dilakukan pada tahun 2017 lalu, yaitu ketika penghapusan organisasi Hisbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). Eks-HTI rupanya terus melakukan kampanye untuk mengubah NKRI menjadi Khilafah, dan dapat kita jumpai hingga sekarang seperti terus berorasi di banyak univeristas.
3. Merancang kembali Mata Kuliah (MK). Seperti MK Pancasila, Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan, dan MK Agama yang perlu dijadikan MK wajib disetiap kampus, agar tak mudah terpapar paham-paham keras.
4. Revitalisasi Organisasi Kemahasiswaan. Organisasi ekstra kampus seperti PMII, HMI, GMNI, IMM, KAMMI, dsb seharusunya tidak dipersulit. Hal itu supaya dapat membantu memunculkan kontra-wacana dan kontra-gerakan terhadap kelompok/sel radikal (pasca-pelarangan HTI yang kini menjadi OTB) yang masih beroperasi bebas di kampus.
Radikalisme kuat kaitannya dengan ekstrimisme atau memandang segala sesuatu dengan berlebihan. Radikalisme dan ekstrimisme nampaknya tidak mengenal negara berpenduduk mayoritas muslim seperti Indonesia atau negara-negara Eropa di mana kaum Muslimin merupakan kaum minoritas. Ia memberikan penguatan, bahwa radikalisme tidak hanya dilakukan oleh orang-orang beragama Islam, melainkan semua agama.
Seperti yang dilakukan oleh orang Yahudi Zionis kepada Palestina belakangan ini, kemudian Yahudi Ortodoks yang merasa kaumnya lah yang paling hebat di seluruh dunia. Agama lain juga seperti Nasrani, yaitu Kristen, Katolik, dan Ortodoks. Gereja ortodoks juga banyak yang radikal, seperti di Eropa yang pernah melakukan perang sampai 3 abad lamanya ketika reformasi gereja, yaitu abad 17-19. Pada agama Budha yang dikenal damai pun juga, seperti yang kita temui pada orang-orang Myanmar, dan Thailand Selatan. Dan pada agama Hindu dapat kita lihat di India dan Srilangka.
“Jadi, saya kira ini yang perlu dipahami dahulu. Bahwa di seluruh dunia selalu ditemukan kalangan orang-orang yang inginnya berlebih-lebihan, ekstrimis, memaksakan kemauannya untuk melakukan aksi-aksi radikal, perubahan secara menyeluruh, komprehensif, dan dalam waktu yang cepat. Itu terjadi di seluruh dunia, tidak hanya di Indonesia,” tuturnya.
Faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi paham ini berkembang adalah seperti sistem politik yang tidak kompatibel dengan agama, seperti yang terjadi di Timur Tengah. Di Indonesia, seharusnya masyarakatnya banyak bersyukur, karena adanya Pancasila. Ideologi NKRI ini sangatlah bersahabat dengan agama. “Kalau ada yang tanya Pancasila atau agama, itu menurut saya keblinger. Kenapa? Karena hal-hal yang seharusnya sudah selesai di dalam bangsa kita, tapi masih di permasalahkan lagi. Dan hal-hal itulah yang memancing timbulnya ekstrimisme dan radikalisme. Harusnya kita jangan mudah terpancing, supaya tidak mudah terpecah belah,” jelasnya.
Terakhir, Ia menyampaikan bahwa perguruan tinggi seperti Unhasy lah yang dapat membantu dan menjadi cermin bagi kampus-kampus lainnya dalam memberantas radikalisme. Seperti menggaungkan Islam Nusantara dan pendalaman materi ASWAJA (Ahlus Sunnah wa Jamaah), supaya ideologi-ideologi keras tak mudah masuk dilingkungan anak muda.
